One of the most wonderful things about the creative industry is that there is room for absolutely anyone and any style. In my world, illustration is a visual representation of nice things, such as ice cream and cocktails, using simple pens, vibrant colours or splashy watercolour madness. Nature inspires my typographic patterns and free-flowing marks.
My illustrative style was born from a simple uni project. We had 24 hours to create a double page magazine design about anything, and in any style. I procrastinated by eating doughnuts as I didn't have the faintest idea where to start; I hadn't 'found' my style yet. So I grabbed a biro and just started doodling. I had never used watercolours before in my life, so cracked them open to see what mess I could make.
Splashing them around on paper - drying them with a hairdryer (I was running out of time by this point) - was so fun. The layered textures and patterns they made were just beautiful (in fact, I use that watercolour sometimes in my logo today!). Finally, I had found 'my style'! It was voted best in the class by my peers, so I ran with it...!
